“He took the mantle of Elijah that fell from him and struck the waters and said, “Where is the Lord, the God of Elijah?” And when he also had struck the waters, they were divided here and there; and Elisha crossed over.” 2 Kings 2:14
Elisha just watched Elijah be carried away in a flaming chariot to heaven. Now, sullen and heavy of heart, he retrieves the mantle of his Master and cries out these words. You can sense the loss and the desperation as he does so. He also strikes the Jordan, as Elijah had, and the waters part for him revealing that “double portion” of God’s Spirit that he had asked Elijah for. Thus begins the ministry of Elisha!
Just one thought. It is at moments like these, when we are at our lowest, like Elisha, that God may choose to use us! Peter said “humble yourselves under the mighty hand of God, that He may exalt you at the proper time.”
May God do so!
