“And he gathered together all the leaders of Israel with the priests and the Levites.” 1 Chronicles 23:2
David has just established Solomon as Israel’s new King. Starting here at verse 2, and for the next several chapters, outlines the role the Priests and the Levites will have in the future government. It is a long list of names and various duties that can be quite mundane, but it was something that had to be done in running the kingdom. Those chosen to serve were those God had originally set aside for Tabernacle Service. They were a Holy People!
Isn’t that the same for us today in the Church? We have many duties that need done, but we don’t choose those to meet them based on Ability. Paul tells us in 1st Timothy, that it is all about Character. In summarizing their qualifications he says “if they are beyond reproach”. Isn’t God Wise?
