“Joash did what was right in the sight of the Lord all the days of Jehoiada the priest.” 2 Chronicles 24:2
King Ahaziah has died, and his mother, Athalia, puts to death all the heirs to the throne; so she thinks. One son has been spared, and when 7, installed to his rightful position as King. His Aunt Jehoshabeath and Uncle Jehoiada, who was High Priest at the time, raised him as their own. And as a son we are told “did what was right in the sight of the Lord”. But days would come when this godly Mentor would die and others take the role as counselor and guide. He would soon become a Wicked King, even putting to death the son of his surrogate father. Such a Sad and Tragic Story!
Suffice it to say, sometimes the best efforts of parents do not produce the children they desire. May God breathe on them, and us, and give us Grace!
