“Then Satan stood up against Israel and moved David to number Israel.” 1 Chronicles 21:1
Like the Synoptic Gospel records, the Book of Chronicles is a similar, albeit somewhat different account, of 1 & 2 Samuel and 1 & 2 Kings. Here in today’s chapter, you have another version of the same story that appears in 2 Samuel 24. By providing us the “2 sides”, God gives us a more comprehensive view of “the coin”.
The most interesting difference is the opening verse. In 2 Samuel we read “Now again the anger of the Lord burned against Israel, and it incited David against them”. Compare that with today’s verse and you can see what I mean. Both are true, and by themselves give us a “side” of the story. But by having both, it gives us a deeper and fuller insight into God’s Ways.
