“and he requested for himself that he might die, and said, “It is enough; now, O Lord, take my life, for I am not better than my fathers.”” 1 Kings 19:4b
This is Elijah’s prayer! God’s Prophet; declares it shall not rain, commands fire to come down on a water-soaked altar, and prays for the rain to return. That Prophet! Here he is, fearing for his life, fleeing from an angry Queen, sitting under a juniper tree, and praying to die.
Two thoughts: 1st, no matter how great or mighty someone may appear to be, it is God Working and not Man. If we don’t get that, we will flounder for a long time! 2nd, left to ourselves, we have no purpose and no hope! Elijah says later to God, “I alone am left”. What a Dismal View! But God does not leave him to despair. He comes to him and meets him there. May God help us too in our time of need!
