“Then they came to the place of which God had told him; and Abraham built the altar there and arranged the wood, and bound his son Isaac and laid him on the altar, on top of the wood.” Genesis 22:9
In what must have been a shocking command, Abraham is told by God, “Take now your son, your only son, whom you love, Isaac, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering.” And, in an act of obedience, Isaac becomes that willing sacrifice by being bound and laid on the altar by his father. What a Picture of the Christian Life as we remember Paul’s exhortation in Romans 12:1, “Therefore I urge you, brethren, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies a living and holy sacrifice”. May we have this kind of obedience and become like Isaac!!!
