Read Job 29-31

“I have made a covenant with my eyes; How then could I gaze at a virgin? Job 31:1

In the last 3 chapters, Job summarizes his final thoughts. As he recounts the argument of his personal Integrity, he makes this revealing statement in today’s verse!

In the Book of 1 John we are told “Do not love the World” because if we do “the love of the Father is not in him”. What is part of that command has to do with our eyes; John calls it “the lust of the eyes”. In Job’s effort to avoid this Pitfall, he has “made a covenant with his eyes”. In his case (as is in most men), this would deal with Gazing at Women. But it isn’t limited to that; it is “anything” that we would “lust” after with our eyes. Job was so committed to living Uprightly, he made a “Covenant” (a solemn vow before God) with his eyes.

What an example for us of godly living!
