“Moreover, the one who blasphemes the name of the Lord shall surely be put to death;” Leviticus 24:16a
There are several instances of punishment recorded in the Pentateuch; this is one of them. The son of an Egyptian blasphemes, they bring him to Moses, and God says put him to death. God requires inflexible adherence to the 10 Commandments; in this case, the 3rd.
What is my point? God Is Holy, and must be treated Holy!!! When we break His Law, it has consequences. In this man’s case it meant his life. This is what makes Sin REAL. This is why Paul says “through the Law comes the knowledge of sin.” And this is why Jesus came! So that we can be Saved from our failing to keep the Law. That is why it is called GOOD NEWS!
